Trivimint

Music

Album of the Year, the top Grammy, at all 68 ceremonies since 1959. Each question gives you four albums that were nominated together and one that won.

Why the winner is hard to guess

The albums people still play are often the ones that lost. Lionel Richie beat Purple Rain and Born in the U.S.A., Steely Dan beat The Marshall Mathers LP and Kid A, and Herbie Hancock's album of Joni Mitchell songs beat Back to Black. Every wrong answer in the quiz is an album that really lost that night, so there is no joke option to rule out.

The page under the game goes through the results that changed the award: the comedy records that won in the early 1960s, the first rock, hip-hop and Spanish-language winners, and the records for most wins. Taylor Swift has four, and Kendrick Lamar has been nominated five times without winning.
